yay, a real trailer:

inspiration today: vintage fashion photos

finally got to see Model as Muse. Loved all of the vintage Vogues and Harper's Bazaars. It inspired me to scour the internet for great vintage photos. A couple of the shots below were featured in the exhibit, including the first photo which I was able to buy as a postcard:

Richard Avedon
*love*
Irving Penn
Helmut Newton
*probably one of my favorite photos ever*

inspiration today: newspaper canvases

one of the things I love about New York is, any place can be an art gallery: a restaurant, a coffee shop, my hair salon. I once visited a little gallery inside an apartment building and the entrances to two of the apartments were actually in the gallery. So, as I admired a beautiful oil painting of a country cabin in the Catskills, a young couple struggled to push a stroller through the doorway of the adjacent wall. A funny little city this is; but inspiration is around every corner.

An artist named Tom Matt shows his work in these kinds of places. I was in Bazzini several months ago sampling a salsa dip when I discovered a couple of his pastel drawings hanging across from the deli counter. He takes the paper-of-the-day and on it creates a beautiful representation of the Brooklyn Bridge or a street corner on 79th and Columbus. Anyway, just a huge fan of cityscapes in general, but I particularly love his drawing style. I've posted some of my favs below, but there is much more on his website including a Paris series.

Bryant Park, the Grace Building & Chrysler

fashion films on the calendar

loved Lifetime's version with Shirley Maclaine and Barbora Bobulova, but I must say I am almost wishing the summer away so that I can see Coco Avant Chanel -- US Release: September 25th --with Audrey Tautou (The Da Vinci Code). Hope it's as good as Valentino

Trailer:

And of course, I'm dying to see Andre Leon Talley traipsing about a tennis court smothered in Louis Vuitton in The September Issue -- New York Release: August 28th. Can they please give us a real trailer?

the footwear hall of fame: Roger Vivier Cut-Out Wedges

in the footwear hall of fame, these Roger Viviers are Babe Ruth. As seen in this Interview article about the reinvention of the brand.

congrats Rodarte!

love how The Cut twittered the play-by-play of the CFDA Awards. I had one little encounter with the Mulleavys last year on this Halloween shoot for Bazaar. They're lovely! I remember strapping Caroline Trentini into those crazy -- what are they six-inch? -- spikey pumps that Louboutin did for the collection and literally having to act as her crutch to help her hobble over to the set. She goes, "How is anyone supposed to walk in these?!" I was like, "Honey, if you can't, we're all screwed." Those shoes were serious.

I also helped dress one other Rodarte look for the August issue. Yikes those tights!

Aaaah memories... anyway, so happy the girls won!

loving M a l o

ok so, I used to draw these little fashion croquis when I was a design student. Turns out they were not enough to impress any potential employers, however, I still think they're fun and quirky. So once in a while I'll illustrate looks I love from the runways and post them here in my little world. Starting off with Malo SS09:
